Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that uses movement and the body as primary tools for emotional expression, self-exploration, and psychological integration. It is based on the understanding that the body and mind are interconnected, and that movement reflects inner emotional and relational processes.
In DMT sessions, movement is used to support awareness, expression, and transformation of thoughts, emotions, and embodied patterns. Through attuned therapeutic interaction, clients are invited to explore how they move, feel, and relate within a safe and supportive space. Verbal reflection may also be integrated to deepen insight and integration.
Each session is process-oriented and responsive to the individual, allowing what emerges in the body and movement to guide the therapeutic work.
Dance Movement Therapy is suitable for people of all ages and does not require any prior dance or movement experience. It may be especially supportive for those who:
Want to explore emotions through the body and movement
Experience stress, anxiety, trauma, or emotional overwhelm
Have difficulty expressing themselves verbally
Are seeking deeper body–mind awareness and integration
Are going through life transitions, loss, or relational challenges
DMT can support:
Emotional expression and regulation
Increased body awareness and embodiment
Trauma processing through non-verbal pathways
Improved self-awareness and psychological insight
Stress reduction and nervous system regulation
Strengthened sense of agency, presence, and authenticity
Sessions typically last 60–90 minutes and are tailored to your individual needs and therapeutic process. Sessions can take place online or in person.
A brief initial consultation can be arranged to determine whether Dance Movement Therapy is appropriate for your needs.
Dance Movement Therapy is a psychotherapeutic modality. However, it is not a replacement for medical or psychiatric treatment. If you are in acute distress or under psychiatric care, collaboration with licensed healthcare providers is recommended.
